Below are answers to some common questions we get asked by other members on Rent&Refer.com. If you do not find the answer to your question here, please feel free to drop us a line.

What if I do not receive my share of the referral fee from the current resident?

You have multiple options to consider. First, reach out one more time to the current resident via RentandRefer.com messaging. Use this easy route before trying other measures. Sometimes people are just plain slow so another reminder may be just what they need to kick start the motivation. If that doesn't work, refer to the Referral Agreement Summary. We hope it never comes to this but if you have to take someone to small claims court, the Referral Agreement Summary states that the losing party must pay any related legal fees. Lastly, let people know using the User Review. If other users avoid that individual and your reviews cuts off that person's "fun-money" stream, they'll fix the situation real quick! We highly recommend that people treat others fairly and don't be jerks. If you follow that simple rule, this issue should never arise.

I canceled my lease, do still have to complete my open referral agreements?

To avoid this all together, please try and cancel with as much notice as possible, especially if your apartment requires the incoming resident to be active for a couple months before they pay the referral fee. However, if you do run into this situation and you are paid for the referral, then you must complete the open referral agreements.

How do I turn off text message updates?

We try to provide you with options to personalize your profile and settings that work best for you. To update any notification settings simply click on "My Profile" → "Notification Settings" → click on any of the On/Off switches for Text, Newsletter, or Live notifications. We recommend you keep notifications on so that you don't miss out on any opportunities to increase your "fun-money" cash flow.

How do I hide my account?

This is just as easy as changing your notifications. From your "My Profile" page → "Contact Information" → click on Hide Account located right between Edit Password and Edit Photo. Fair warning – if you hide your account incoming residents will not be able to find you to enter into a referral agreement thus decreasing your opportunity to make money. If you are trying to skirt your responsibilities and not pay a referral agreement you've already entered into, too bad! Incoming residents with whom you have already entered into an agreement with will still be able to find you. Don't be a jerk, be a good person.

Is my unit number shared with other residents?

We respect your privacy and therefore do not share your specific unit number. You wouldn't want a creeper badgering you and we wouldn't want that either. However, if you enter a referral agreement and spark up a conversation with that person through the messaging center then more power to you. Share all the information you want.

What if I don't see my property listed on the site?

Get it listed ASAP! The sooner you get it listed, the sooner incoming residents can find you so that you can take advantage of the referral fees you deserve. Click on the "List a Property" page → input the apartment name and most of the fields should prepopulate → input the current referral fee → select one of the images → click "Submit Property". We'll then verify the information and let you know when it's ready to go. If the fields do not prepopulate for whatever reason, please add it with what you know about the property. We need the information to verify the property so please try and be thorough.

What if I never receive the referral fee from my property?

Start by asking the incoming resident for a copy of their rental agreement. This will provide you with the proof you need to approach property management. If that doesn't work, you'll likely want to start by looking for another place to live because this is probably a pretty haggard place and they won't be helpful with any issues you may have. Next, consider legal action. No one wants to go through this, but you've earned it and they're jerks.

What if I want to advertise on the site?

We would like to provide our users with useful information that may help with their move. Whether you are a home improvement company, moving company, storage company, or any other service provider that is useful during a move, we are open to sharing deals you may have available. If you randomly want to advertise your nuclear waste disposal consulting firm or any other offering that is not pertinent to our users, this probably isn't the site for you. Click on the "Contact Us" link and we'll get back with you if we feel you can help our users.

What if the current resident provides incorrect referral fee information?

We actually have both parties input the referral fee information to try and avoid a "he said, she said" situation. If we do run into that, take a picture of the referral sign that is in front of every apartment complex offering a referral fee and email it to us. A picture is worth a thousand words. We'll use that and call the apartment complex to settle any disputes.
